My Background

I have always had an interest in photography and art especially when teaching elementary school. I was born in Muskoka and have been a lifelong cottager and now call Muskoka my home. I love the beauty of the area and all it has to offer. My pseudonym of “Sunset Val” was chosen due to my love of sunsets and the fact that I am “slowly” entering my sunset years….and who doesn’t love a Muskoka sunset!  Volunteering and giving back to the community have always been a part of my life and I was looking for a way to incorporate my love of photography. When visiting hospitals and nursing homes, I noticed the lack of artwork and uplifting images. This was the inspiration of SunSet Val photography…to combine art with a social vision. Although I have donated framed photos to some long term care facilities, my vision has taken a twist. I've also donated enlarged photos to online silent auctions and profits to make cash donations to charities. However, I continue to donate 100% of profits to social service agencies and online fundraiser auctions.
